Waterford VTOS Awards Ceremony

Waterford VTOS held its annual Awards Ceremony in the Tower Hotel on 9 November 2017. It was a special night for the graduates and their families. Ken Whyte, Director of Further Education, was in attendance and presented certificates to the successful graduates. 91 Waterford VTOS students were awarded QQI Level 5 and 4 Awards. The Irish Handmade Glass Company was the kind sponsor of the Best Student Award. This year’s recipient for 2017 was Marie Cook, a Fashion Design, QQI Level 5 graduate.

Once again, 2017 has been a successful year for our graduates who have progressed on to employment, further education and setting up their own businesses. The guest speakers, former VTOS students were a source of inspiration as they told their stories. Colm Griffins, a Business Administration graduate, has set up “Griffin Motors” on the Cork Road. Another guest speaker, Fiona Crawford, graduated with an Honours Degree in Business and Accounting from WIT, is now working in an accounts firm and studying for her professional accountancy examination.

Graduates who had set up their own businesses were invited to showcase their work. On the night, Sharon Gildea (Shar Chic Design) and Kayleigh Phelan (Kayleigh Couture Bridal) both former Fashion Design students showcased a selection of their recent collaboration of stunning bridal gowns and accompanying headpieces. Caroline O’Toole, another Fashion Design graduate, holds “Speak in Stitches” Craft Workshops and showcased her knitwear designs.
