On Thursday January 25th Mr. Kevin Lewis CE WWETB travelled to Trinity College Dublin to attend the Graduation Ceremony for Principal Ms. Noreen Reilly (St. Pauls Community College) and teachers Ms. Nicola Byrne, Ms Gwen McMullen, Ms. Jessica O Leary and Ms Fionnuala Brennan who attained Postgraduate Certificates in 21st Century Teaching and Learning with the School of Education and Computer Science & Statistics, Bridge21 and the Trinity Access Programmes in Trinity College Dublin.

Through creative teamwork, this Level 9 qualification explored how 21st century learning can be integrated within the classroom. In addition to the core module on ‘Digital Media’ optional modules included 6 modules on aspects of computer programming and modules on STEM pedagogy, ‘Inclusive Education’ and ‘Leadership & Change Management’. The Cert is a Level 9 awarded by Trinity College Dublin.

Mr. Lewis congratulated the Principal and teachers involved and commended them on their engagement with the course, emphasising “teaching and learning as our core business” in WWETB.

Mr. Lewis fully supported the teachers involved in this worthwhile educational endeavour and acknowledged the link between 21Century

Teaching and Learning and the “Magenta Principle’s “, a Teaching and Learning initiative scheme wide in WWETB supporting Teachers to be reflective practitioners and developing Communities of Learner Teachers and subject Networks between teachers across WWETB schools and colleges, under the stewardship of the Director of Schools Ms. Eilis Leddy.

Principal Noreen Reilly, quoting the great

educational philosopher John Dewey said, “If

we teach today’s students as we taught

yesterday’s, we rob them of tomorrow.” This belief motivated Ms. Reilly and some of her teachers to participate in the PGC in 21st C T&L in TCD. Ms. Reilly commended the teachers involved highlighting their commitment to providing high quality Teaching and Learning in Paul’s Community College and the commitment of St. Paul’s CC teachers to preparing students for jobs in the future not yet dreamed of. Ms. Reilly noted that at the end of a week’s teaching it was challenging for staff to get into their cars and travel to Trinity to participate in the PGC. Teaching on the course comprised of six modules between September and April. Each module consisted of a Friday evening (6-9pm) and Saturday (9.30am-5pm) session, in Trinity College Dublin and/or the Google Foundry buildings in Dublin.
