Cork ETB Orchestra and EVC Orchestra perform Musical Event in EVC

On Saturday, March 4th, sixty-six young musicians in addition to tutors, parents and some proud grand-parents from Co. Cork ETB School of Music performed in Enniscorthy Vocational College. With their conductor, Wexford native Helen McGrath, the Rebel county orchestra presented an impressive programme ranging from popular piece The Teddy Bears' Picnic to an arrangement of Wexford songs guaranteed to stir the hearts of the model county.

Home side, Enniscorthy Vocational College Orchestra (selected students from 1st year to 6th year) with conductor Brídín Kelly played with the wind in the first half with assistance from violinists from St. Senan’s Primary School. Two tango dancers added a touch of colour to the Wexford programme which ranged from the traditional "Carrigfergus" to the famous Rocky III theme; "Eye of the Tiger".

Well-known past-pupils Stephen Murphy and Mark Waters gave well-received solo performances for the enthusiastic Cork and Wexford crowd while current 3rd year music student Stacey Breen entertained with her new single. 6th year music student Serena Casey and 3rd year music student Rhian Tyrell-Wright performed stylish jazz pieces on flute and clarinet. All visitors, from far and near, were given a very warm Enniscorthy welcome in the parents' room from Aileen Walsh and her hospitality team of EVC staff, students and proud parents.

MC for the day was Conor Dempsey, PLC Legal Studies teacher; instrumental tuition and orchestral support was given by EVC tutors Olwen Sheil (Cello); Emer Collins (Violin and viola) and Ann Wickham (Flute and Clarinet). Anita Cullen (flute), EVC PLC Music teacher and Anne Ringwood, St. Senan’s Primary School (violin), assisted the orchestra for the day. Video-recording was provided by James Kells, PLC media; sound assistance by Liam Sharkey, PLC Media Studies teacher. Home-baking was donated by generous EVC staff and parents. Principal, Dr. Iain Wickham and Deputy Principal, Conor Berry presided over the event.
