Traveller Health Promotion in action

WWETB Adult Literacy Service in Waterford City are currently providing literacy support and tuition to the Waterford Traveller Primary Healthcare project, based in St. Brigid's Family Resource Centre.

The Primary Healthcare group have designed and developed a series of easy read Health Promotion leaflets for members of the Travelling Community as part of their literacy classes.

This project enabled Traveller health care workers to seize control of health promotion within their community and transform the information into something relevant and appropriate for their target group.

Our access to health information is vital and should not depend on the literacy levels of any given community. This project demonstrates the vital role that literacy tuition can play for our learners, our communites and our society as a whole.
