'I am starting to climb to the top of the mountain of fear and it feels great'

Maria, Adult Literacy Service, Waterford

My name is Tony. For me returning to education was something I always wanted to do but never had the courage to do anything about it. Having problems with reading, writing and spelling has haunted me all my life but somehow I got through different situations I found myself in. It definitely stopped me doing some of the things that I would have loved to do in the workplace and in everyday life.

Some years ago I did go to my local education centre and they arranged for me to call in for an assessment and I have never looked back. I have been attending classes once a week at the Adult Education Centre in Railway Square, Waterford and it has been a lifeline for me. I met some fantastic people both tutors and staff and I will never be able to thank them enough for everything they have done for me.

I started computer classes with very little knowledge of computers.  With the patience and help from  Clive I’m now able to send and receive emails and down-load music.  I made a birthday card and a calendar.   Nothing was too  complicated for him to answer.  The welcome and help from all the staff was excellent. The building is first class and I would recommend it to anyone wanting to learn in an relaxed atmosphere.
