Right to Life March in DC
Warriors for Life students made the pilgrimage
to Washington DC for the Right to Life March
on Thursday, January 22nd. They traveled by
bus with Orchard Lake Saint Mary’s and Mercy
High Schools. One of the highlights from the
trip was a visit from Archbishop Vigneron who
was impressed and very pleased to learn the
schools had traveled together. The students
joined an estimated 600,000 people on the
march up Constitution Avenue, around the
Capital and in front of the Supreme Court.
On Friday, the boys visited Arlington Cemetery
where they experienced the changing of the
guards at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier,
then spent the day visiting Smithsonian
Museums and Memorials.
We are proud of the young men for standing up for the weakest amongst us, being the
voice for the voiceless while peacefully and
prayerfully trying to change the hearts of those
that are blinded by the culture of death in this
world.
Bonita Springs Mission Trip
The annual mission trip to Bonita Springs,
Florida took place in July. The Edmund Rice
Christian Brothers run a camp for 50 boys
and girls in the local community, ministering to
the children of migrant workers. Our students
spent Monday through Friday, involved in
various activities and trips. They ministered
to the poor of the local parish, most of whom
were Hispanic. Teaching English and religion
was the first focus, but this teaching led to
Right to Life March
serving other needs — all the things that make
living and learning possible.
Through this rewarding mission trip, students
come to know and understand Blessed
Edmund’s saying, “Were we to know the merit
and value of only going from one street to
another to serve a neighbor for the love of God,
we should prize it more than silver and gold.”
Lima, Peru Mission Trip
Brother Rice students spent 10 days in
Lima, Peru last summer discovering Jesus
and Edmund in the face of the poor on our
missionary service immersion. Students live
in the spirit of Edmund Rice ministering to the
children of this developing country. This trip
is always a life changing experience for all of
our missionaries.
One of the highlights is
the process of tearing down, and rebuilding a
house of one of the local residents, all of which
is done in just two days time.

Glenmary Farm Appalachian Trip
For a week in November, a group of 5 students
from Brother Rice joined together with five
students from 3 other Christian Brothers
schools for a week of missionary service and
simple living at Glenmary Farm, located in the
Appalachian foothills of eastern Kentucky. The
Glenmary Group Volunteer Program allows
student groups to serve the rural poor of Lewis
County, Kentucky, while living a simple life of
prayer, community, cultural awareness and
reflection. Each day brought a new challenge for
the students, from working home construction
to visiting a center for the elderly or working at a
food and clothing pantry. The evenings allowed
for cultural immersion, as the students learned
a bit about life in the Appal X
