NEVER AGAIN WITH THE 5 T ’S BY: SCOTT AND BETHANY PALMER WE HAVE all heard the standard methods to prevent fights about money: Get a budget, use only cash, and just stop spending! If these were working money would not be the No. 1 reason couples cite when they get divorced. Those ideas aren’t bad. They just don’t stop the money fights. But there is a way to stop, slow down, and conquer the money fights. Try the Top Five Relationship T’s: 20 TALK Break the trend and talk to your spouse about money. Research finds couples are more likely to talk about sex than money when they’re dating. The lack of communication often starts a relationship down a bumpy road early on. Take the time to talk to your significant other about money. Questions you might ask: • How do you feel about money? Or the lack of money? • Did your parents fight about money? If you had a blank check for our future what would you do? • Do you think a budget is a good idea for us? • What do you think about debt? Invest in your relationship by talking about the big green elephant in the room. Tell your spouse that you would like to have a simple “Money Talk”. Ask when would be a good time and make
