complementarity in the humanitarian actions in Central America, the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), together with the National Red Cross Societies of Honduras, Guatemala and El Salvador and the German Red Cross, promoted the scaling up of Anticipatory Action on drought and insecurity in the dry corridor through a project supported by the European Union.
During 2023, capacities were strengthened at community level through agricultural
trainings to improve planting, cultivation and livestock protection techniques.
On the other hand, improved seeds and multi-purpose cash transfers were provided to offer at-risk communities the opportunity to cover their priority needs. Meanwhile, the project included the collaboration with different municipalities and leaders for the creation of locally-based minimum packages of anticipatory actions.
The initiative involved an active participation in strategic spaces for advocacy on the integration of anticipatory action mechanisms and approaches in national Disaster Risk Management systems.
