Official launch of the FbF mechanism in the Costa Rican Red Cross

Cross officially launched in December the FbF mechanism, with the support of the German Red Cross and the International Federation of the Red Cross Red Crescent Climate Center.
The event was attended by the National Society's authorities, as well as the German Red Cross representative, Mauricio Santos, Regional Programs Manager.
Jim Batres, National Director of Risk Management (DINAGER) at the Costa Rican Red Cross, highlighted that "FbF is an opportunity to strengthen our service to communities efficiently before a disaster, through forecasts that can be offered by institutions such as the National Meteorological Institute (IMN), OVSICORI and some tools that we are developing with the University of Costa Rica, in close coordination with the National Emergency Commission (CNE)".
The Red Cross recognizes that the contribution of technical-scientific institutions and universities is essential to achieve the goal of the FbF mechanism in Costa Rica, and therefore support work on damage mitigation in the communities.
