You once worked at the Scientific Research Council (SRC). How did that experience impact your work with Bambusa? I have a BSc degree in Biochemistry and did minor studies in Computer Science. Therefore, I have a strong appreciation and respect for nature’s design of our products and how best to tailor them for our clients. This has helped considerably with maintaining and continuously improving product quality. Nevertheless, I benefited from being a lead auditor at SRC for ISO 17025, the international standard for testing and calibration laboratories. That experience helped me hone my quality management skills. How would you describe the experience of starting a business in Jamaica? I view the experience of starting a business in Jamaica as both challenging and rewarding. Jamaica However, there are three challenges I have identified with successfully starting a business in Jamaica. 1. How clients pay. Small businesses can’t survive if clients pay whenever they feel like. Unstable cash flow has caused many small businesses to die. 2. Businesses financing through unsecured loans is ridiculous. The banks are still not willing to offer better financing options to small business owners. Things are slowly improving but we still aren’t there yet. 3. Women in business need greater access to resources and training tailored to their needs.. There are support groups for women and Jamaican female entrepreneurs, but islandwide access is limited. Successful female entrepreneurs can help reshape the way we support each other. Once you get to the top, it’s definitely on you to send the elevator back down. is my home and I love what I do. ��
