Sustainability Yields Success
By Christine Mclean
When it comes to single-use
plastics, Jamaica needs a reset.
Our country is filled with vibrant,
talented people who change the
world. However, there is so much
more that we can do to protect the
environment.
The Government of Jamaica (GOJ)
implemented a ban on plastics in
January 2019. It was a bold move
that has caused more Jamaicans
to consider sustainable living.
Sustainability, however, requiresmore
than taking a reusable bag to the
grocery store. It requires a mindset
shift.
Tricia Williamson, owner of Bambusa, is
a strong advocate for this long lasting
change. Her bamboo straws are more
than a replacement for plastic straws -
they are the gateway for creating a
culture of sustainable thinking.
Entrepreneurs have a strong role to
play in setting Jamaica’s reset button.
Tricia’s story demonstrates how.
