The journey to entrepreneurship can be
arduous even to the most steadfast
individuals. Many make the first step but few
persevere to the finish line. In just the same
way an infant learning to walk will require
from time to time the sturdy hand of a
parent or comforting words after a fall, a
young entrepreneur will need guidance and
support on the journey to entrepreneurial
success.
Sceptics may question an organization that
provides this guidance and support to young
entrepreneurs exists in Jamaica. A proverbial
‘fairy godmother’ who will come to the
rescue and prepare hopefuls for the ‘ball’ of
entrepreneurial success. I am here to tell you
that this organization does exist and I learned
of its existence in much the same way as
most great discoveries are made, purely by
chance.
I was recently invited to a seminar entitled
‘Basic Money Matters’ hosted by the
Jamaica Business Development Corporation
(JBDC). I know that some persons might
say, “I’ve known of this entity for years!” I
am fairly new to the entrepreneurial world
and I am just beginning to experience the
delights of this intriguing new universe. As I
sat in the workshop and learned of the
products and services they o�ered my mind
went crazy….Are they for real....they do
some of this for free…how many
entrepreneurs and hopefuls actually know
about them?
