CBD products have hit the mainstream. Even people
who have long been against the use of cannabis are
opening their minds to it. CBD, or cannabidiol, is the
second-most abundant chemical compound in cannabis
after THC. It mitigates the psychoactive effects of THC,
so for many years it was bred out of the plant by growers
who were trying to develop the most potent strains
possible. However, now that the many benefits of CBD
are becoming more well known, there has been a
resurgence in breeding CBD-rich cannabis plants.
Health Benefits of CBD
For the last decade or so, scientists have been studying
the health benefits of CBD more than they used to. As a
result, medical journals are full of studies supporting its
medicinal use. In fact, the FDA approved the CBD drug
Epidiolex in 2018 for patients as young as two years old
in the treatment of seizures associated with two forms of
epilepsy, Lennox-Gastaut syndrome, and Dravet syndrome.
