When did you get into growing and what attracted you ?
In 1991 my soccer coach was ‘ The Prince of Pot ’ Mark Emery , so my interest in cultivation sprouted early . A decade later , I was mesmerized by catching a glimpse of a real grow with my own two eyes — my cousin was growing some White Rhyno plants under his staircase . I was convinced in that moment that I too would one day grow cannabis . Fast forward to my dad and I putting four clones in the ground a few months before bill C-45 became official . I ’ ve had perpetual grows on the go ever since !
What are some of your hobbies outside of growing ?
It ’ s been pretty exclusively family , friends , and flowers for the past few years .
How has growing shaped your lifestyle ?
Growing ’ s been something that has consumed my time since legalization became a reality in Canada . This past summer I helped more than two dozen friends and family with their indoor and outdoor grows throughout Ontario . I ’ ve been happy to take on the role in my circle as the go-to guy for cannabis growing help . I always ask : how Canna-help you ?
For 2021 and beyond I ’ ve set my goal / expectation for myself to find a legal side-hustle somewhere in this everexpanding cannabis community .
Seeds or clones ? Not picky !
Any grow secrets you have that you want to share ?
The secret to growing is this … there ’ s not just one secret to growing ! All the little things you do to advance your grow ( improving lights , airflow , genetics , soil , environment , nutrients , reading Maximum Yield magazine , etc .) will lead to a better end-result . Cannabis growers refer to this as “ dialing it in .” There are 100 different secrets to improve your grow , but they are done one at a time . Also , patience . Growing green is not for people who are hasty .
How big is your garden ? Four plants maximum , of course .
Indoors or outdoors ? I do both , but my heart is in the growroom .
What do you look forward to most at harvest time ?
In the past years , I ’ ve hosted a Harvest Moon event : It ’ s a dry flower exchange ! After everyone has harvested , about 25 growers get together and each person brings one to four different strains that they grew throughout the summer , and we leave with 25-50 strains each . It ’ s enough variety to last until the next harvest . We trade as little or as much as we ’ d like , while using the time to share best practices in cultivating , and harvesting , as well as ways of improving for next year .
Best strain you ’ ve ever grown ?
