Buyer Beware : Black Market Weed Scams
Despite legalization in many states , many still get their cannabis from black-market sources . However , many dealers are looking to rip people off with a variety of scams . If you buy from illegal sources , watch for Mylar bags with graphic labels and lab test results showing a premium strain . Blackmarket dealers can easily obtain these bags from third-party sellers and fill them with ditch weed . Others are now cutting their cannabis with baking soda to add weight and artificial sparkle resembling trichomes . Another scam that could really cost you is buying fake slabs of shatter made from pine rosin . The cheap and completely benign tree wax is yellowish gold in color and can be heated and made to look almost exactly like THC-rich cannabis concentrates . To make it look even more like the real thing , dealers mix in small amounts of cannabis terpenes or THC distillate to create a deceptively dank smell .

Cannabis Strength Continues to Soar
New research shows that over the past 50 years street cannabis across the world has become substantially stronger , carrying an increased risk of harm . The team behind the study from the Addiction and Mental Health Group at the University of Bath synthesized data from more than 80,000 cannabis samples tested over the past 50 years from street samples collected in the U . S ., UK , Netherlands , France , Denmark , Italy , and New Zealand . The findings were published in the journal Addiction . The study shows how concentrations of THC have changed over time in different types of cannabis . In herbal cannabis , they found THC concentrations increased by 14 percent from 1970 to 2017 . This was primarily due to a rising market share of stronger varieties such as sinsemilla relative to traditional herbal cannabis which contains seeds and less THC . The researchers noted increased THC levels were particularly high for cannabis resin , with THC concentrations rising by 24 percent between 1975 and 2017 .

Maned Wolf ’ s Cannabis Connection
The maned wolf has an apt nickname : skunk wolf . That ’ s because the smell of its urine contains pyrazines , a combination of carbon , nitrogen , and hydrogen that separates from its urine and brings a pungent , familiar smell to the air . Indeed , this lanky South American mammal ’ s pee odor bears a startling resemblance to the familiar scent of cannabis . Maned wolf urine was responsible for police being called to the Rotterdam Zoo in 2006 because someone thought a zoo-goer was smoking weed . Turns out it was the wolf ’ s urine they were smelling . Unlike most wolves , the maned wolf is a solitary animal , so experts theorize that the high pyrazine levels in maned wolf urine as as a prominent and long-lasting sign that a given patch of territory has already been spoken for . The peculiar , marijuana-smoke smell of the canid ’ s urine is an olfactory “ Keep Out !” sign .
