A Note From the Critic : Here we are at the beginning of a deliciously evil new year . Compared to last year ’ s theater releases , hopefully the horror community will deliver some tantalizing films for me to pick apart in the next few months . The list for this year ’ s best films was not as long as I had originally hoped . In the meantime , I looked to the past to see which not-so-known films could be considered for this issue ’ s theme of revenge . I chose a few that were intentionally gory , and some for the psychological intuition , but in the end all of the movies that I recommend to you will leave you with an ice cold feeling in your stomach .

With that in mind , dear reader , I bid you bon appétit . Revenge Spotlight : Truth or Die ( 2012 )

Set in the chill of a winter storm , a group of friends endures both horrific torture methods and mind tricks at the hands of a deranged man who only wants to play a game . Behind the great lighting and over-the-top acting is a secret that everyone won ’ t say even if they pick ‘ truth ’, leaving the answer up to the reader ’ s imagination until the very end . This movie takes the cliched ‘ Cabin in the Woods ’ trope and spices it up with real stakes and flashy cinematography that will leave you guessing who will survive until the end . The movie does have its problems , especially with the flashback scenes and with the man holding everyone hostage actually not as intimidating as one would prefer . However , the pacing in the film makes up for it all , leading up to a climactic ending that will leave you pleasantly surprised . Without giving too much away , this revenge story will not leave you disappointed .
