TRANSMISSIONS + AWD
Subaru symmetrical full-time AWD systems are designed for optimum performance and
efficiency on all roads, in all seasons, at all times. To capitalize on these characteristics, each
version of the system is matched to another key element of the drivetrain – a transmission
that is perfectly calibrated to extract maximum performance and efficiency. In all, there are
four different AWD systems in the current Subaru lineup and six different transmissions.

LINEARTRONIC

CVT

+ MULTI-PLATE TRANSFER CLUTCH AWD
The ideal link between the smooth power of the SUBARU BOXER engine and the
confident control of Subaru symmetrical full-time AWD is the advanced Lineartronic CVT
(Continuously Variable Transmission). This production-car first – a CVT longitudinally
paired with AWD that uses a chain instead of a belt – allows for a near-infinite selection
of gear ratios, keeping the engine in the most favourable rpm range at all times. This
design creates improved performance and outstanding fuel efficiency, as well as faster
response to throttle input. The Lineartronic CVT is also specifically tuned to provide
a more natural feel than other designs for instant response on demand with minimal
application of the accelerator pedal. The overall result is pure Subaru: performance,
smoothness and efficiency in perfect balance.

SUSPENSION
The Subaru symmetrical full-time AWD system would
not be complete without the fully independent
suspension system. All Subaru models feature a
