ACTIVE SAFETY, TO AVOID A COLLISION
Many of the same features that make the 2011 WRX and WRX STI fun to drive also help
keep occupants out of harm’s way. The stable, responsive handling of symmetrical
full-time AWD is enhanced by the low centre of gravity of the SUBARU BOXER engine.
An impressive braking system that includes ventilated front and solid rear discs,
ABS, Electronic Brake-force Distribution and Brake Assist plus Vehicle Dynamics
Control (VDC) equip the WRX with excellent stopping power and increased stability.
Powerful Brembo® brakes with larger ventilated discs, Super Sport ABS and an even
more advanced multi-mode VDC system boost the level of control on the WRX STI to
even greater heights. These active safety features, combined with quick steering, work
together to give the driver incredible evasive abilities.
VEHICLE DYNAMICS CONTROL SYSTEM
The Vehicle Dynamics Control (VDC) system† monitors and analyzes whether the vehicle is
following the driver’s intended course via an array of sensors. If the vehicle approaches the
limits of stability while cornering or avoiding an obstacle, the engine output and brakes at
each wheel will automatically adjust to help keep the vehicle on course. The WRX STI employs
an advanced multi-mode VDC system that offers even more flexibility to adapt to changing
driving conditions.
†The
Subaru Vehicle Dynamics Control system may also be known as Electronic Stability Control.
PASSIVE SAFETY, TO LESSEN THE CHANCE OF INJURY IN A COLLISION
SEATS, SEATBELTS AND AIRBAGS
The WRX and WRX STI are designed with superior occupant protection in mind. The
vehicle body structure is strengthened in critical areas to help minimize the impact
energies that could potentially reach the cabin. A full complement of airbags and
3-point seatbelts help protect occupants even further. All of this to say that these
purebred performance cars play hard but play safe.
Height-adjustable front seatbelts feature
pretensioners to hold passengers firmly in
place and load limiters that ease peak forces
to the chest. Front airbags, front-side and
side curtain airbags offer another level of
protection. And the rear-seat ISO-FIX/LATCH
anchor system allows for the safe installation of
compatible child seats.
RING-SHAPED REINFORCEMENT FRAME
This advanced frame design strengthens the
passenger cabin from the roof to the doors,
pillars and floor, thereby helping to dissipate
impact energy and divert it away from
occupants. In the event of a frontal impact,
the front crumple zone compresses gradually
and the engine slides under the passenger
compartment for even greater security.
