All three Indigenous groups agree that the big , stone columns that rim the snow and ice — known as hoodoos — stand to remember guardians of this area , who died here . But it ’ s not all about history . Just as glaciers are dynamic , so are Indigenous peoples . “ We ’ re not of the past — we ’ re still here ,” Patterson says , as we near the end of our day ’ s hike . “ And the important piece ? You ’ re a part of it , too .”
We still have miles to go , the rest of the Parkway , the beautiful town of Jasper , and much more , beyond . But here , right now , standing atop continents , this is the high point of the trip for me . Literally , geographically and spiritually .
Maybe it ’ s all the exercise-induced endorphins . But damn , I feel good . Standing here , hundreds of metres of ice beneath my crampons , a blue sky above the snow-capped peaks that surround , I see not just these mountains , but beyond ; layers of culture and history .
With plenty more territory to cover , Urie remains a perpetual and indomitable bundle of energy behind the wheel . Soon , again , we ’ re on our way . And I just can ’ t wait for his next story to unfold .
SUBARU WRX AND CROSSTREK AWARDED FOR RESIDUAL VALUE AGAIN

In another prestigious awards study , the J . D . Power 2024 Canada ALG Residual Value Awards , a pair of Subaru vehicles again performed admirably . As announced in early February , the Subaru Crosstrek and Subaru WRX emerged as repeat winners after being named Best in Residual Value among Small SUVs and Sporty Cars , respectively .
For the Crosstrek , it was the eighth win in nine years , according to J . D . Power . For the WRX , it was the ninth consecutive win as the best Sporty Car . The J . D . Power Canada ALG Residual Value Awards honour the vehicles that retain the highest percentage of the manufacturer ’ s suggested retail price ( MSRP ) after a designated period of time . For mass market vehicles , residual values are assessed four years after the vehicles were new ; for premium vehicles , the time period is three years .
