Break-away Engine
Every Subaru goes above and beyond common
practice when it comes to your safety. In the
event of a head-on collision, your Outback’s
SUBARU BOXER® engine and gearbox are
designed to absorb the impact and break away,
deflecting below the cabin for your protection.
Ring-shaped Reinforcement Frame Seats, Seatbelts and SRS 1 Airbags
The Ring-shaped Reinforcement Frame strengthens
the passenger cabin from the roof to the doors, pillars
and floor. This design helps to divert and dissipate
impact energy away from t he occupants in a collision.
It also contributes to strengthening and lightening the
chassis, leading to greater, reinforced protection. Outback features front SRS 1 airbags plus front-
side SRS 1 airbags, side-curtain SRS 1 airbags
and front-seat cushion SRS 1 airbags. Height-
adjustable front seatbelts feature pretensioners
to hold passengers firmly in place and load
limiters that ease peak forces to the chest.

worn in order to avoid injuries to out-of-position occupants upon airbag deployment. The combination of SRS and seatbelts provides the best protection in a serious accident.
