Active Grille Shutter
A mix of rugged looks and clever aerodynamics,
the Outback is more than ready to take on
new challenges. Not only does it look like it
can handle tough terrain, it returns great fuel
economy.
The Outback 2.5i uses an Active Grille Shutter on the front of the car to improve fuel economy.
It closes to warm up the engine faster when the car is started and, while driving, it also closes
to reduce wind resistance and cold airflow. However, when the engine gets hotter, it opens to
cool off the engine.
