Continuously Variable Transmission
6-speed Manual Transmission +
Viscous Centre Differential AWD
For maximum control and sporty satisfaction, a slick-shifting
6-speed manual transmission is standard on Outback 2.5i
and 2.5i Touring Package models. It’s paired with an AWD
system utilizing a Viscous-coupling limited-slip centre
differential. If wheel speed differs between the front and
rear axles, the system helps distribute power to the wheels
with the most traction. The 6-speed offers smoother, more
precise shifting, along with a compact size and light weight
that add to Outback’s sporty feel.
Helping you get the most out of your SUBARU BOXER® engine
and Subaru Symmetrical Full-Time AWD, the latest-generation
Lineartronic® Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT) keeps the
engine in its ideal power range for the best possible fuel economy.
The Lineartronic in the 3.6R is engineered to handle the higher
torque output and offers a smoother, quieter ride as it reduces
mechanical noise during operation. By automatically selecting
the optimal gear ratio, adaptive control adjusts to fit your driving
style and road conditions, while ensuring maximum drivability and
efficiency from the 2.5i and 3.6R engines at all times.
Paddle Shifters
Paddle shifters are mounted on the steering wheel for fingertip
control, giving you the power to select the gear ratio of the
Lineartronic® CVT that best suits your driving situation. The result
is a sharper and sportier driving experience.
