for the unthinkable.
Occupant protection is a high priority in every element of the Impreza—from major features
like the seats, to small designs like the pedals. Its body structure is intelligently strengthened
in critical areas to help minimize the impact energies that reach the cabin, while an array of
advanced interior safety features help protect occupants directly.
Pedestrian Protection
Impreza was designed with the objective of providing
a high level of pedestrian protection. Shock-absorbing
space between the hood and engine helps to reduce
pedestrian injury if an accident should occur, as do
an energy-absorbing front bumper and a specially
designed area around the windshield wipers.
Break Away Engine
Every Subaru goes above and beyond common
practice when it comes to your safety. In the event of
a head-on collision, your Impreza’s SUBARU BOXER®
engine and gearbox are driven under the front seat
occupants and away from the cabin for your protection.

1 The Supplemental Restraint System (SRS) (airbags) affords the driver and the front and rear outboard passengers additional protection in moderate to severe frontal and side-impact collisions. This system provides supplemental protection only, and seatbelts must be worn in order to
avoid injuries to out-of-position occupants upon airbag deployment and to provide the best combined protection in a serious accident. Children should always be properly restrained in the rear seat.
