ATAR Results: Is this the only key to success?
It’s that time again, the time we are all siting back and anxiously waiting for that magic number. Since Year 12 begins we are all on a long and rough road for our ATARS, but is it really that important in the end? Will this mysterious number give us that career that we all have been dying for? Have no fear! Turns out that your ATARs are not as important in the main scheme of things.
Statistics tell us that a person will change their career path 5-7 times in a lifetime. In that case wouldn’t be natural that there would be other ways to get your post-secondary education? As a matter of fact there is. There are many pathways to get into that dream career with or without that perfect ATAR.
Don’t get me wrong; I’m not saying that ATARs are not at all important to a degree. By all means in school if you know what you want and know it requires prerequisites, then go for it. For some jobs it will make things a lot easier, for example a career as a doctor.
ATARs are something that you just cannot accurately predict, in the end the result will either be good or bad, but maybe I can relieve the pressure just a little. If your really set on university and you didn’t get your score, don’t worry, there is a few options that you can do for most universities, they just take a little longer.
Here are your Options:
Internal Transfer
To go forth with internal transfers, once your in your chosen University its recommended to go into a similar degree to what you initially wanted.
Tafe / Private Collage
By starting in a TAFE you can work your way into a university degree. This Process is a longer one but it will get your foot into the door of University if that is where you want to be.
These are a few options for if you still want to get into university, but Collage and University isn’t for everyone and you shouldn’t feel bad if it isn’t the right path for you. TAFE works just as well, especially if you plan to work in trades or hands on jobs.
ATARs are important. Those who have studied hard have not wasted year 12, especially if your looking at a specific job or course. Just keep in mind if you don’t end up getting this amazing ATAR, there’s a multitude of doorways you can go through, you just need to look.
