Study: Turning content dollars into audience - Page 13

Since their inception, streaming platforms have gained a firm foothold in the film media value chain.

The value chain consists of four stages, starting with the production of content and the resulting

ownership of rights and ending with the access to content via different devices. The players are

differentiated by business model and clustered into three groups (s. figure 2): FTA and broadcast,

pay TV and streaming.

However, there are also hybrid models of FTA and broadcast and digital streaming services, since many linear TV channels have started to build digital streaming platforms in addition to their linear offering. Further players such as production studios and different distribution channels participate

along the media value chain, but their impact varies from one business model to the next

(s. figure 2).
