//Raising Aspirations Gary McTurk HNC Construction Kilwinning Campus “I was working as a Plant Operator at Hunterston Power Station, but found I couldn’t progress within the company without some additional qualifications. My employer was encouraging, and allowed me to attend Kilwinning Campus one day per week to study the HNC Construction course. Working full-time whilst coming to college was really challenging; I spent a lot of nights and weekends studying, but two years later it has been worth it, to finally achieve my qualification. Completing my HNC means I am now able to become a full supervisor. I really enjoyed my time at Kilwinning Campus and would definitely recommend it to others. I really found the practical side of the course extremely relevant and it went hand in hand with my duties at work.” “ Completing my HNC means I am now able to become a full supervisor.” Gary McTurk attended Kilwinning Campus to raise his career aspirations. 4 Senior Lecturer, Archie McAulay says “The level of commitment and attention Gary paid to the course has been outstanding. Over the past two years he has managed to successfully complete the HNC, achieving an ‘A’ grade, whilst also continuing with full-time employment. Gary is a real team player and became a great support to other students. I am grateful that Hunterston value the course, giving Gary the opportunity to build upon his experience in the industry with a recognised qualification is a great investment in his future. Gary’s positive attitude and enthusiasm towards his learning was really encouraging. The HNC is a tough course, and to see a working student do so well reinforces the belief that Ayrshire College is doing a good job in supporting those who wish to raise their own aspirations.” THE STUDENT VOICE: EDITION 1
