This Poem Was My Teddy Bear’ s Idea By Lisa Gong
I was caught talking To an inanimate object. The dictionary said: In-an-i-mate [ in-an-uh-mit ] adj. 1. Not animate; lifeless. 2. Spiritless; sluggish; dull. We had a quarrel, The dictionary and I. I think the definition had a hard time Choosing between us.
To me, Talking to inanimate objects is Saying hey To the ketchup bottle, Getting mad Over a computer game, Screaming at a math book To solve its own problems, Politely asking the rain To stop pouring.
My opponent Was being too complex. I said“ What’ s with this adjective nonsense?” But of course, It wouldn’ t reply Because it was inanimate.
Now I wonder, How do inanimate objects define us? Do they get caught
Talking to us?

The Barren Earth By Kuilin Li
Through these barren halls I float, Around chairs and desks I steer my boat, Waterlogged walls and a seaweed floor, Derelict folders float past a door.
This place used to be a place of learning Kids in rows, for knowledge they were yearning,“ Knowledge was power, and power was money”, A thought that I now think quite funny.
But the world fell into disrepair, Water levels rose, higher than to bear, As cars used to run, guzzling gasoline, The world was becoming less and less green.
Cities submerged, mankind destroyed, The problem Man created lured Man into the void, The species extinct, except for one survivor, For to build an ark, I was the one who was wiser.
I sit here in my boat, rowing and thinking, Thought after thought, my ideas are linking, With animals now gone, these plants now survive, Repairing the world, a new era they’ ll bring.
Long, long ago, it was a watery earth, A giant sea, only plants, for what it was worth, Yet now, things look just about the same, Is there no way to escape from this game?
From a world of water to a world of land, Then mankind reared its ugly hand, Destroying the world and flooding it, Thinking that they had all the wit,
Changing the world back into a world of water, All those animals, Man will slaughter, Then from a world of water to a world of land, Again, mankind will rear its hand.
Is there any way out of this cycle? I don’ t know, and I just keep on rowing.
