pounding the earth like a slow beat from a drummer boy. People who push the limits should be remembered. I am one of them. I defied the rules, and despite my sex, I fought in the war, and took care of my wounds. By resisting the rules, I enabled women to have more power and I showed my country that women are just as strong as men.
“ Sorry, Deborah Sampson, I got carried away cleaning my rifle,” General Knox booms in his deep voice as he enters the tent.
“ Quite fine, sir,” I stand and salute him as he walks into the tent. A few moments later General Knox signs my honorable discharge, and I walk away from the camp towards what might be home with my head held high, hoping to be recognized for supporting my county in a time of need(“ Deborah Sampson 1760-1827”). The sun sinks behind me like many soldiers I have seen sink to their knees and collapse, but I know that the sun will rise into the heavens, as will the soldiers who sank to their knees.
