Be CONCISE
Less is more is often the case with written communications. Again, this comes back to respecting your reader’s time, as well as being mindful of their language ability.
Aim to always be polite, but get to the point. Your reader should not have to sift through lengthy paragraphs and read long-winded sentences to work out what you are saying.
Learning to edit your work is the surest path to writing concisely. When writing to students, practice self-editing by asking yourself these questions:
+ Can I make this sentence shorter?
+ Are the words I've chosen accurate for the purpose?
+ Does this student really need to know xxx?
+ Have I repeated myself?
+ What words can I remove?
TIP:
Use the positive to reduce word count.
Examples:
"He was late" is more concise than "He was not on time."
"She forgot", instead of "she did not remember".
