RECTOR’S OFFICE
Dear Student
Greetings dear student!
After my absence from the Campus
due to my injury I am truly glad to
be back ‘home’ on the most beautiful university campus in the country!
Thank you so much for all your
wishes of good health and recovery
– it made me realise, once again,
that the Vaal Triangle Campus
community is a very close-knit
family.
It is difficult to believe but
we have passed the halfway
mark for the year 2014 and
this semester marks the
begging of the end of the
current academic year.
I hope you were happy with
your exam results? If not, you
have less than four months to
rectify the situation. Always
remember that your academic
endevours should enjoy
preference to all other activities
since it represents the very
core of your journey as a
university student.
On 9 August we will celebrate
Women’s Day. On this day we
remember those women who
came before us and who selflessly
sacrificed their dreams and
aspirations to ensure that
women today have more
opportunities available to them.
Female role models are all
around – be it mothers,
grandmothers, lecturers or
fellow class mates.
Take time out during August to
pay homage to remarkable
women who impacted on your
life and whilst doing so step up
to the plate and pay it forward
by inspiring and motivating

others around you.
The second semester usually
soars to an end very quickly, so
make the most of every opportunity
that presents itself. Students sometimes feel like they’ve run a marathon when the first semester ends.
Depending on individual circumstances, students may truly have put
in more effort than usual during this
semester. If you didn’t meet your
academic expectations you may feel
anxious about the start of the new
semester – and my advice to you is
simple: STAY FOCUSED.
Good luck with the second semester!
