STRUT! May 2014 | Page 28

Own Your STRUT! I’m watching me… blonde hair, flyyy flips, black hair, natural fade, red lipstick, clear gloss, silver hoops, diamond studs, glass bangles, lil black dress, white wide leg pantsuit, bling tee, military fatigue leggings, red stilettos, black pumps, gold wedges, black and white adidas, doctor, principal, professor, teacher, mentor, consultant, visual artist, jewelry designer, zumba instructor, author, poet, speaker, magazine publisher, soror, sister, daughter, mother, wife, friend. I’ve embraced this 5’8.5 frame of voluptuousity and curvaceousness with the butterfly tat. I recognize my ego and its need to lead. I accept my distinct and diverse demeanor. I understand that this Georgia Peach charm, Southern drawl, west coast mentality, Articulate Intellect has been around-the-word-and IIIIIII- ain’t forgettin’ my native, well, ebonically speekin, my natively acquired language. Yet, in all of this, I own the fact that none of these labels are me. My STRUT is about simply being. And the ahmaaaaaazing thing I’ve discovered is that just being gives me peace and opens the door for my Spirit to smile… and I Love It! Darcova [email protected]
