Interview
AI the next big thing in SCM
How there was a shift?
This is very rare be it a PSU or a private
sector. I am one of the few lucky
people who opted for it willingly and
organization also readily provided that
kind of opportunity. It just happened
in the year 1996being under the
activity of its big train ing institute at
Noida. I was one among the core team
to be selected as a faculty member.
Because for being a faculty you also
need to have practical knowledge. I
developed many technical modules in
the subject domain. It is the initiative
that differentiated me. I started
developing into the managerial areas.
I took the initiative of conducting
developing and organizing
management technical training
programs in the areas of motivation,
communication, team building and so
on. This helped me in the area of
management I was also supported by
management.
I was again identified to come back to
the field. As a part of the mega project it
had a tight schedule. We did it with a
small team. With our joint efforts, we
completed the project 6 months ahead
of schedule and we were also awarded
the national petroleum award for the
same.
If you put your whole hearted effort
success is bound to achieve. And it is
the team If someone takes an
individualistic approach then success
will be far away.
There is a research paper published.
They proposed a life theory. There are
8 deeply embedded life interest. And
out of which each person is a
combination of ¾ of this 8. All though
the person excels in the role assigned
to him, that might not be part of the
deeply embedded life interest.
The job of the manager is to closely
monitor the team member and find out
what his or her aptitude is and try to
see that the job is aligned with the
deeply embedded life interest. Though
it is difficult, it should definitely.
We talked about the labour
unions. When we see the private
organizations, it at time affects
productivity. What's your take on
it?
Perception and perception
1.When your fair and transparent
then there will not be any problem.
It is in this area, the labour unions
feel that they are exploited. There is
always a reasonable chance that, If
in reality there is no exploitation,
but they feel that they are exploited.
The management needs to
introspect and find out the reason,
inspite their best efforts they are not
being perceived at the way they
need to be.
2. There is a legal and statutory
framework, through which
everything has to be held. One
needs to be practical and if there is
understanding from both the sides
then an convergence can be
reached. But if an extreme situation
and if the management feels that
they are fair enough and
transparent enough and not doing
anything around, then they can
take a hard step. If the
management is honest, then the
unions will definitely understand
the situation and accept.
Some companies follow the
policy to curb the unions being
formed
They will only succeed for some
time. It won't be successful at the
long run. Be value based, be
genuine, be transparent, then most
of the problems will vanish.
I will quote chankya

everybody wants so called
pleasure over himself
