DOG ATTACKS
by Kate Chapman and Ben Greenwood, Norden residents
Our neighbour recently took our Bichon Frise, Jess,
out for a walk round Greenbooth Reservoirs where
they were both subjected to a vicious attack by a
Bullmastiff which was accompanied by its owner
and off the lead. This aggressive dog was clearly
intent on killing our dog and we are sincerely
grateful to our neighbour Pete, who had the foresight
to pick Jess up in order to get her out of the way of
the dog and at the same time attempted to fight off
this vicious dog whilst the owner simply looked on.
The dog punctured Pete’s thumb in several places
and also attacked Jess, leaving her with puncture
wounds on her back. Both were extremely
traumatized by the incident and returned home in a
complete state. As Jess was in a lot of pain, we took
her to the vets where she was injected with a
painkiller and given a course of antibiotics and we
were left with a hefty bill for the treatment she
received.
As Pete was keen to flee the scene as soon as
possible and get out of the way of this vicious dog,
he was unable to take the owner's details but has
since reported the incident to the Police. Clearly this
aggressive animal should have been muzzled and
on the lead and my husband and I were disgusted
that its owner was happy for it to roam about freely,
endangering humans and other animals.
This is a very topical subject especially having
recently seen on the news that an 11 month old
baby girl was killed in Blackburn by a pit bull terrier
type dog whilst asleep upstairs in bed.
IMPORTANT The dog which attacked Jess was a large
chesnut brown Bullmastiff and it's owner was a woman in
her fifties with shoulder length dark brown hair, wearing a
blue walking jacket.

Norden resident Ben Greenwood, treasurer of Friends
of Norden Jubilee Park, added: “I was really sorry to
hear about the most recent dog on dog attack. It’s
very distressing for the owners of the pet that is being
attacked and the two attacks I know of have been
quite vicious. As a father, I believe we need to take
these at х
