SMM : What made you start your non- profit organization called "Ties for Change".

Timothy Richardson : When I was younger I always knew I wanted to start a non-profit but I wanted it to be meaningful and close to my heart. So after losing my dad at a young age it made me realize the importance of having a male presence in a young man's life. So Ties for Change was created when I started realizing that statistically more and more young men are not being given proper instruction on professionalism or direction about how to pursue a higher education.

SMM : How can we get more information on your organization?

SMM : Why do you think that education is so important among young black men?

Timothy Richardson : My role model and favorite activist is Malcolm X and it was his strong conviction that education is the passport to the future. I myself come from a single parent home where my mother was a strong advocate for earning my degree. Due to the current events occurring in our society it is important we earn our educational credentials to become contributing members to this society so that we can make a difference by example.

SMM : Where is your organization based out of?

Ties For Change was started in Orlando, FL
