J.Irja : Coming from poverty and moving around a lot during my childhood molded me as a person. It taught me to hustle, to make something from nothing. To never let my past determine my future. I always loved writing and recording songs into my “TalkGirl” cassette recorder when I was younger, it was my outlet. All of thats flows through into my music today, the pain, the struggle, the perseverance.

SMM : How does it feel going independent?

jJ.Irja : It is the best feeling in the world, to be in total control of my career. Don’t get me wrong, It was really hard at first. I had dedicated my whole life to my team, I cut off friends, family, pretty much everyone and focused only on my music and how to contribute to my squad. When I left I had to restart from scratch and build all new connections and learn how to do things on my own. I’m so glad I did it now though, because it strengthened me as a person, made me a better artist, and helped me learn so many things about the music industry I would have never learned. I can’t wait to drop this next mixtape, I’m so happy to finally be able to tell my story, my way.

SMM : How can your fans hear more of your music?
