The Best & Worst of TX2K16
CONSISTENT
8-SECOND GTR
Fans of Street Outlaws will know this
car. Tuan Ho of Oklahoma City has raced
this GT-R dang near everywhere imaginable and never shies away from a race,
whether on the track or on the street.
After a little tune-up time at T1Race Development, he ran multiple 8-second
passes, with a personal-best of 8.64 at
163.67 mph. Ho also walked away with
a win in the GT-R 3 drag racing class.
RECORD SETTER
TRAP SPEED ASSAULT
WARHOUSE-BUILT
Tony Palo and his T1 Race Development GT-R
not only set a new U.S. quarter-mile ET record
for the GT-R; he also broke the speed record
in the process. Palo posted multiple runs in
the 7s, ran consistent times all weekend long,
and on his final pass of the event he ran 7.38
on the Royal Purple Raceway surface, which
is just .19-second slower than EKanoo Racing’s
world-record 7.19-second overseas blast. Additionally, the T1 Race Development crew took
home six first-place and one second-place
trophy over the course of TX2K16.
Jason “Mullet” Stevens made TX2K history by
clocking 208 mph and 213 mph in his Underground Racing twin-turbocharged Lamborghini Gallardo during the roll racing sessions
on Thursday and Friday. These were the
fastest posted speeds in TX2K roll race history,
from a true street-driven beast!
When thinking of a 1975 Celica, “fast” probably isn’t the word that immediately comes
to mind, but one glance at the car put together by the gang at Speed Warhouse will
change that perception. Following up on their
“Vipra” from last year, a turbocharged Viper
V-10 packed into a Toyota Supra, Bill Peron
and the rest of the Speed Warhouse guys
continued their debauchery this year by outfitting a Celica with a 2JZ knocking down well
over 1,000 wheel horsepower through a sixspeed transmission. This car skated down the
track for the roll racing and drag racing sessions all weekend, trapping speeds near 160
mph and running deep into the 10-second
zone in the quarter-mile. While hunting for
a 9-second pass on the last run of the
weekend, Bill launched the car at 8,800 rpm
and sheared all the rear wheel studs clean off!
