The Best & Worst of TX2K16 Amazingly, each winning car in the Roll Race Nationals was a GT-R, and each wore an AMS Performance Alpha turbocharger kit. Mike Misztal won the Sport class with an Alpha 10 system, Greg Lifrieri took the prize in Super Sport with an Alpha 12 system, and Ben Hayes in his T1 Race Development-built machine blasted to the win in the Unlimited class with an Alpha 16 system. The second pair of days at TX2K16 featured the drag racing portion of the event. With multiple classes made for any and every car, competition is grueling. This year, Tony Palo of T1 Race Development stole the show by setting the ET and speed records for the GT-R in the United States, with a 7.38-second blast at 204.26 mph lighting up the scoreboard. Although the event consists of four days of sanctioned racing, it can be said the real action for TX2K happens during impromptu night meets at various unsanctioned locations around the city. Once the track racing is done and the sun goes down, the real fun begins on the streets of Houston. This is when drivers call one another out and either dig or roll race to see who earns bragging rights on the street. The city is overcome with some of the fastest street cars in the country, with some reaching speeds upward of 200 mph. Not surprisingly, with each passing year there are always a few cars and happenings that stand out—good and bad—as especially memorable and TX2K16 certainly didn’t fail to deliver! Check ‘em out! NEXT LEVEL NISSAN This car is a work of art, absolute perfection with every inch finished in the best parts available. This was a much-anticipated appearance for Gideon “Gidi” Chamdi, as the first time testing the new setup it was very impressive. AMS is one of the many performance shops chasing the fastest GT-R world records. On the first full pass off the trailer, the beams were tripped with a stout 7.85-second elapsed time at 183.62 mph. After turning up the boost, they made their best pass of the weekend, improving nearly a tenth of a second to 7.77 and 184.67 mph. 24 STREETRACE
