When Stratton Resort opened its doors on December 29 , 1961 , JFK was President of the United States and “ The Lion Sleeps Tonight ” was at the top of the charts .
Ben-Hur was the highest grossing film of the year , Wagon Train was # 1 on television , and the NY Yankees were the reigning World Series champs .
Pill box hats were all the rage , and Chubby Checker had every teen dancing “ The Pony .” A first class stamp cost 4 cents , and gasoline was only 31 cents per gallon . It was a different world . Despite the obvious changes to our universe since then , Stratton endures .
The last 60 years can certainly be marked by politics , pop culture , fashion trends , and technological advances , but they can also be measured in memories .
Family vacations , romantic getaways , delicious meals , first ski lessons , first tracks , exploring new trails ... all of these — and more — are memories of Stratton .
In our ever-changing world , a constant is our love for our Vermont community and those we have shared it with . As we begin 2022 , let ’ s celebrate both the tradition of Stratton … and its future .
