About
Growing up as the youngest of four, I often felt that my path was predetermined. I felt pressure to follow the same interests as my siblings. Despite my parents enrolling me in every sport imaginable, it never seemed to fit me. This was the first of several personal discoveries I made at a young age. I have always been an observant and curious person, which has led me to explore new paths.
Since the age of ten, I was well aware that I wasn’ t like other kids, in that I was attracted to the same sex. Being gay has taught me to approach life with an open mind. Every situation I am presented with I approach without bias and I co-operate with the process. This approach has led me to implement a cross-disciplinary approach to my design work. I enjoy crossing disciplines and using combinations of tools and techniques in my design work to offer a well-rounded and robust solution to design problems.
Using my growing collection of film cameras, typewriters, scanners / photocopiers, paint and other physical materials I have been able to develop a unique aesthetic that pays homage to technology’ s origin. The permanent and intentional nature of analog technology allows for an effortlessly authentic piece of design. Using these tools to my advantage I cross disciplines to add dimension.
Through experience, I have found that my cross-disciplinary approach tends to engage a wider audience. Without completely abandoning new technology I have found a way of harmoniously integrating the old with the new in order to create a truly unique formula to tackling each design project. Living in such a rapidly advancing society that is dependent on technology I find it necessary to use my voice as a designer to break conventions and cross disciplines to create visually stimulating work backed with integrity and purpose.
I find myself often seeking out gaps in society to fill with a design solution. These solutions often result in the creation of a platform for an individual or group of individuals who don’ t have a voice or whose current reputation doesn’ t accurately represent them. I strive to use design as a powerful tool to unite, teach, and engage communities.
