games, explored the island, and reflected on a week that had flown by far too quickly.
Another favorite event was the colorful Claim the Island Pirate Flag Challenge, where teams competed in pirate-themed challenges ranging from knot tying and cannonball tosses to treasure relays and final battles. Teamwork proved to be the greatest key to success as every camper contributed to earning points for their crew.
For many campers, the water activities became some of the most talked-about moments of the week.
“ I loved all the games we played,” said Bria Lahr, a third grader from Sauk Rapids.“ The Wibit and the Splat were my favorites. The Splat is where the counselors jumped and sent us campers flying into the water!” Bria is already looking forward to returning next summer.“ I can’ t wait to come back next year!”
One of the most memorable moments of the week happened Wednesday when Camp 1 and Camp 2 briefly came together. Nearly 100 campers and dozens of
counselors gathered for one giant group photograph before Camp 1 boarded the buses home. After one last Hug Line filled with high fives, hugs, smiles, and even a few tears, counselors waved goodbye before turning their attention to welcoming the next group of campers arriving just minutes later.
While campers enjoyed the excitement, the camp would not have been possible without the dedication of Benton County’ s outstanding teen counselors. Months of planning, committee meetings, counselor training, CPR certification, activity preparation, and leadership development all came together during one incredible week. The counselors served as cabin leaders, teachers, mentors, role models, entertainers, problem-solvers, and friends— often from sunrise until long after campers were asleep.
Adult volunteers, chaperones, nurses, kitchen staff, Camp Koronis personnel, and Benton County Extension staff also worked tirelessly behind the scenes to ensure every camper experienced a safe, welcoming, and memorable week.
