an 1875 Huntsman plow. One of the potato diggers in Copa’ s shed was patented in 1886 by the International Seed Company in New York. In fact, many of the equipment items in Copa’ s collection date to the 1800s and early 1900s.
There’ s a special feeling to hitching up the team of horses to one of the equipment pieces, knowing the history of it and getting a glimpse of what it was like in those days. Just as agricultural machinery is continuously advancing technologically, Copa said it can sometimes be hard for people to see beyond the simple appearance of old horse equipment. The reality is that in its own time, it was considered a technological advancement in farming and really should not be forgotten as it is history.
