SKATE PARK SESSIONS
Creative kids choose new
name for holiday skater club
T
he summer holidays may
only be a distant memory
by now but local kids still
have plenty to look forward
to this coming November half
term with the return of a
popular skating club in Stone.
Hundreds of youngsters
38 October/November 2013
have taken part in the mobile
skate park sessions at The Barn
Youth and Community Centre
in Stone since they were
introduced as part of the
borough council’s Get Out
programme in 2008.
The sessions which give
young people the chance to take
their BMX’s, scooters and skate
boards on the mobile park is
returning again this year but
with a new name decided upon
by the creative kids who use the
facility.
A few months ago organisers
decided a new name was needed
for the popular holiday activity
and asked youngsters to come
up with the title.
A better more ‘street-wise’
name for the activity was
required in order to be
publicised in future brochures
and on leaflets and posters with
the winner also set to be
featured in the ‘GO Get Out’
brochure which is distributed to
11,000 school children and
families ahead of the next half
term break.
Adam Hill, Head of Leisure
and Culture at Stafford Borough
Council
told
Stone
and
Eccleshall Life: “These sessions
have proved really popular with
local youngsters – and so we
wanted a name to reflect the
amazing tricks and skills shown
on the park.
“So we asked those who use
it to come up with something
appealing with the best name
suggestion appearing in all our
literature promoting the activity
with the winner also being
featured in the next holiday
brochure.”
So look out for the new name
and brochure out soon ahead of
the first half term Ska
