Information sought for
Eccleshall’s Great War Project
A
group of keen local history enthusiasts are
looking for help from the public in collating
information relating to a town’s War
Memorial.
The information being sought is for use in
Eccleshall’s Great War Project. Headed up by
Eccleshall resident Dennis Joyner along with the
Eccleshall Historical Society, the project aims to
commemorate the centenary of the Great War
(1914-1918 (1919)) by recording as much
information about the personal, family and
military history of the people named on the War
Memorial in Holy Trinity Churchyard. It is hoped
the project will create a lasting memorial of what
was behind those names, such as family history
and any photos as a way to commemorate the
centenary of the start of the Great War.
Information
including
any
known
circumstances of each of the fallen’s death, their
resting place or commemoration is of immense
14 October/November 2013
inte rest to the group who hope to paint as full a
picture as possible of the history surrounding
those named on the memorial.
The research involved has up to now proved
both challenging and fulfilling for those involved
in the project with all members of the community
and beyond asked to help if they can do so in any
way.
All of the 46 names from the War Memorial are
listed here as well as on a dedicated website linked
to the project which people can view and
contribute to at www.tors-home.co.uk/egwp/ or
through a link from the Eccleshall Guide’s website
at www.eccleshallguide.com.
If you are interested or can help with the
project in any way please contact one of the
co-ordinators Dennis Joyner on Tel. 01785
