VALENTINE’S DAY Love is in the air... alentine’s Day isn't just for loved-up, starcrossed youngsters who want to win each others affections with chocolates, flowers and cards. It is, of course, also for those who have been in loving, dedicated and happy relationships for years. In fact, the Bishop of Stafford once issued a Valentine’s message in which he said married couples should ‘continue to work at their relationship if it is going to be as we all hope, lifelong and mutually fulfilling.’ However Valentine’s Day can be enjoyed by everyone. It is certainly a great time to rejuvenate a relationship perhaps by revisiting that old romantic spot, reliving a happy memory or simply reaffirming your love for one another. Make sure the two of you allow enough space and freedom to concentrate on enjoying each others company Include something unusual in your plan for the day. It doesn't have to be anything crazy, but it V should definitely be something you don't do everyday. An activity that is not part of the regular routine will help you both recognise the unique opportunity that Valentine’s Day affords you to enjoy one another. While most make dinner reservations for Cupid's day, a relationship can be strengthened by planning a surprise. Or rather not planning. There are two ways to do this. The first is to make no Valentine's plans and see what the day brings you as a couple. Some people are a little too regimented for spontaneous activity. If you and your spouse need a definitive plan, agree to create surprises for each other to be presented on Valentine’s Day. Married couples could even think about reaffirming their wedding vows this Valentine’s Day – ask your local church or registrar what opportunities they can offer – or just do it in a private ceremony yourselves with family and friends. Then you will have an extra special Valentine’s Day that you will remember forever.
