Gatsby Glamour BREAKTHROUGH BREAST CANCER ince The Great Gatsby hit cinemas last year, twenties fever has spread like wildfire and, on Saturday 8th February, it is due to land in Stafford. From 7.30pm, the White Eagle Club will play host to stunning singer and entertainer Lola Lamour who will whisk you back to the Jazz age of the 20s, with an homage to the great George Gershwin, before transporting you to the glamorous 50s via the elegant compositions and lyrical wit of Cole Porter. This evening of retro glamour comes complete with a delicious deli-board supper and a complimentary glass of wine, all for just £15 a ticket. Best of all, the proceeds will go to Breakthrough Breast Cancer, the UK’s leading breast cancer charity dedicated to stopping people getting, and dying from, the disease. Liz Osborn, Chair of the Staffordshire group for Breakthrough Breast Cancer, said: “I’d encourage everyone to come to the Eagle Club and enjoy this fabulous event to help us raise even more money for Breakthrough Breast Cancer; it’s an extremely worthy cause.” The Breakthrough Breast Cancer Staffordshire Group began fundraising in October 1999 and over the past 15 years has arranged numerous successful fundraising events that include fashion shows, Sunday lunches, wine tastings, hog roasts and a Valentine’s dance, raising S nearly £500,000 for Breakthrough’s life-saving work. Natalie Bridge, Breakthrough’s Community Fundraising Executive for the Staffordshire area, said: “Without the generosity and dedication of women like Liz, and groups like the Breakthrough Breast Cancer Staffordshire Group, we would not be able to continue our vital research. We’re immensely grateful for all of their efforts and wish them every success for their upcoming event!” Tickets can be purchased from Liz Osborn on Tel. 01785 780 022. If you are interested in joining the committee or supporting them in any way, please contact Liz on the telephone number above. February/March 2014 27
