MOTHER’S DAY
Show your mum you care
othering Sunday, or Mother’s Day as it is
also known, is a day to say thank you and
celebrate our mothers and other mother
figures in our lives such as grandmothers,
stepmothers and mother-in-laws.
Held on the fourth Sunday of Lent, Mother’s
Day is exactly three weeks before Easter Sunday
and traditionally would be a day people used to
visit the church where they were baptised.
The more contemporary interpretation of
Mothering Sunday is now as a celebration of
motherhood with people visiting their mothers,
buying them a gift or perhaps treating them to a
special meal or a day out.
There are many ways people can show their
gratitude and appreciation to their mum or mother
figure and with the help of this special feature we
hope we can help you get organised and find the
perfect way to say thanks to your mum, just for
being her.
It is the one day of the year when sons and
daughters of all ages can take the time to pay a
proper tribute to and say a heartfelt ‘thank you’ to
M
the person who does so much for the family
throughout the year.
This year on Sunday, 30th March, let your mum
take it easy and relax while the rest of the family
does the work. Breakfast in bed might be a nice
way to start the day with many mum’s describing
the best gift they could ask for, being a day off to
allow them time to themselves to relax. Tell her to
put her feet up while you do the housework.
With spring slowly on the way, a lovely bouquet
of flowers might be a nice idea or why not treat her
to Sunday lunch out. Perfume, jewellery, items of
clothing or gift vouchers also make great presents
- and of course a Mother’s Day card is a must.
Pampering your mum by booking her in for a
spa day and a couple of treatments is a lovely
gesture and is sure to be most appreciated by
women of all ages .
Treating your mum to brunch, lunch, high tea
or an evening meal at a pub cafe, restaurant or
hotel is another popular idea but best to think
ahead and book a table as places do get busy on
this day.
