YOUNG ENTERPRISE TEAM HEAD OFF TO UK FINALS
Alocal team of young entrepreneurs who made it through to the national finals of the Young Enterprise Programme have been praised by the county ’ s Economy Chief .
Equipo , a team and company set up by pupils at Alleyne ’ s High School in Stone , beat off competition from across the West Midlands to book their place in the UK finals which took place in July .
Equipo came up with ‘ Earbuddy ’, a great product that keeps headphones from getting tangled up . The team were also highly commended for their commercial selling and creative marketing and have orders already in the pipeline from many local companies .
The Young Enterprise programme helps young entrepreneurs aged 16 to 18 develop their business skills . The teenagers create their own company and sell their own products and services as part of the scheme .
Staffordshire County Councillor , Mark Winnington , Cabinet Member for Economy and Infrastructure said : “ It was marvellous news that
Equipo have made it through to the national finals , a real achievement for them .
“ It ’ s great that the Council are able to help fund these kind of projects . These young entrepreneurs of today will be the business leaders of tomorrow , so it ’ s vital that they get the insight into how business works and to have a go at running their own enterprise themselves when they are so young .”
Stuart Walton , Chairman of Young Enterprise Stafford and Stone , said : “ Equipo is the third team from Stafford and Stone to make it to the National Finals in four years which is a record achievement that we are all proud of . It ’ s a credit to Staffordshire , the perfect symbol of the ‘ Creative County .’”
The Young Enterprise Stafford and Stone partnership received £ 1,500 funding from Staffordshire County Council which has allowed the project to run a number of exciting activities over the year .
