Stone Cabin & Sister HMAs

The Stone Cabin Herd Management Area (HMA) is located east of Tonopah, NV. The HMA is 48 miles long. At its widest point, is half as wide. Stone Cabin comprises about 407,000 acres. BLM lists an "Appropriate Managent Level* (AML) of 218-364.

The Saulsbury HMA can be confusing to many because of it's location. A bit closer to Tonopah, at 16 miles east, the land is administered by Forest Service and BLM. The Saulsbury area comprises about 135,000 acres. The BLM lists an AML of 24-40.

Both Stone Cabin and Saulsbury are non contiguous acres, bisected by a major highway.

Reveille sits almost like a toenail of what should be referenced as "Stone Cabin South." About 105,000 acres, the exchange of individual wild horses between the two HMA's is claimed by federal managers but not documented over time. BLM lists an AML of 82-138.
