The Stone Cabin area holds a special place in my heart. The wide valley runs north and south of the highway, as does the HMA, and even though the wild horses there are counted as one population, they are unable to mingle because of the highway and fence lines. The horses there are beautiful and tough, regularly running miles one way to water and back again. The horses rotate carefully in and out of the water areas; stallions guarding family bands and drinking on alert for danger. Stone Cabin is always a treasure I remember long after I leave the back roads.
