20 WHEMAGAZINE MAY 2018
I have so many memories of Stone Cabin and her wild horses. I have seen wild horses born in Stone Cabin. I have watched stallions age and fight for mares, win them, against much younger and stronger stallions. The value of the wise fighter.
In Stone Cabin I have seen big horn sheep, kit fox, hawks and the herds of curious pronghorn whose babies bounce in the spring like graceful pieces of popcorn as you walk over a rise.
I am grateful that we still have places like this left in our country.
However today I travel these areas and I see how fast it is disappearing . Public awareness of this treasure, the danger to it and how to use their voices is critical.
Stone Cabin is a favorite place to bring journalists because of the history; the program and ours. Recently a story appeared in the New Yorker by a young film maker that has gone on to create a documentary on the BLM prison training program.
Last month I took two groups of journalists out to Stone Cabin that were looking for a deeper story on our wild horses. Maybe their voices will reach new ears?
I did my best to give them
Wild Horse Education.
